Vintage Oxidized Dark Bronze Ewe

Handmade in Mali in the 1960s, this small ewe is cast in dark, oxidized bronze. It was used as a weight in the trade of gold and gold dust. Also known as Mbramoo, Ashanti gold weights often took the form of animals and figures; this piece may be an example of that tradition.
